Strangers in close proximity
series 2017 - 2018 dimensions variable / oil pastel on tied collection of urban fragments / installation view
The series Strangers in Close Proximity is a reference to the text of Zygmunt Bauman, 2003, City of Fears City of Hopes, it includes a collection of sculptures forming an installation of variable dimension that was presented at St. Lucas Gallery in Brussels, Belgium and at Acropolis at the Bottom exhibition (2018) at ASFA, Athens.
‘City and social change are almost synonymous. Change is the quality of city life and the mode of urban existence. Change and city may, and indeed should, be defined by reference to each other. Why is it so, though? Why must this be so? It is common to define cities as places where strangers meet, remain in each other’s proximity, and interact for a long time without stopping being strangers to each other…’
