No Man’s Land

No Man's Land / ONE MAN FLAGS

‘São Paulo is today a city of walls. Physical barriers have been constructed everywhere – around houses, apartment buildings, parks, squares, office complexes and schools… A new aesthetics of security shapes all types of constructions and imposes new logic of surveillance and distance…’. Teresa Caldeira

These bodies of work are interrelated and were presented as an installation/environment in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Greece.

The series is based on the investigation of the relationships people develop within the urban landscape. The process of setting boundaries gained a central role in this project. At the same time, a clear reference to a flag is created, as a notion and as a symbol which establishes boundaries. In this series I build personal flags, one-man flags as a proposal to our behavioral standards.
